About Beyond Borders Overland

More Than Adventure. A Community Built Along the Way.

Beyond Borders Overland (BBO) is a Minnesota-based overlanding club incorporated as a nonprofit corporation under Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 317A. We are built around a shared passion for exploration, outdoor adventure, and meaningful friendships.

What began as a small group of friends exploring trails and discovering new destinations has grown into a community that believes the journey is just as important as the destination.

From remote backroads and scenic campsites to weekend getaways and multi-day expeditions, our adventures bring together people of different backgrounds and experience levels. Whether you're new to overlanding or have spent years exploring off the beaten path, BBO is a place to learn, contribute, and belong.

Our Story

Founded on Friendship. Growing Through Adventure.

Beyond Borders Overland was founded in 2020 by Leslie Morrison, who envisioned bringing together people who shared a passion for overlanding, exploration, and the outdoors.

The club began with eight original members, united by a desire to explore new destinations, experience the outdoors, and create lasting friendships.

Those early adventures helped establish the foundation of BBO—a community built on camaraderie, teamwork, and a willingness to help one another along the way.

As the club grew, so did its vision and commitment to responsible outdoor recreation.

In 2023, Beyond Borders Overland joined the Minnesota 4 Wheel Drive Association (MN4WDA), strengthening its connection to Minnesota's off-highway vehicle community and supporting efforts to preserve recreational trail access, promote responsible land use, and advocate for motorized recreation.

In 2026, BBO reached another milestone by incorporating as a Minnesota nonprofit corporation under Chapter 317A. This transition established a formal leadership structure and provided a foundation for continued growth, organized events, education, and future stewardship initiatives.

Although the organization has evolved since its founding, the values that brought those original eight members together remain at the heart of BBO today.

What Makes BBO Different?

Adventure With Purpose

We believe overlanding is about more than vehicles, equipment, or reaching a destination. It's about the people you meet, the skills you develop, and the experiences you share.

Our club emphasizes:

  • Community and Camaraderie: Building genuine friendships through shared adventures, group activities, and helping one another.

  • Exploration and Adventure: Discovering scenic destinations, remote routes, and new places while encouraging members to expand their horizons.

  • Education and Preparedness: Sharing knowledge about vehicle recovery, navigation, camping, safety, and responsible travel.

  • Stewardship and Advocacy: Supporting responsible land use, maintaining access to recreational trails, and encouraging members to leave the places they visit better than they found them.

We welcome a variety of vehicles and experience levels. You don't need the most expensive equipment or a heavily modified vehicle to be part of our community. A willingness to learn, participate, and respect others matters far more.

Advocacy, Leadership & Community Involvement

Making a Difference Beyond the Trail

At Beyond Borders Overland, our commitment to the outdoors extends beyond the adventures we share. We believe being part of the off-highway vehicle community means taking an active role in protecting recreational opportunities, supporting responsible land use, and giving back to the communities around us.

Leadership & Advocacy

Since joining the Minnesota 4 Wheel Drive Association (MN4WDA) in 2023, BBO members have become actively involved in the association's leadership, committees, events, and advocacy efforts.

Our members contribute their time and experience through leadership positions, participation in organizational planning, and involvement in initiatives that support the future of motorized recreation in Minnesota.

Working With the Minnesota DNR

BBO members also participate in meetings and discussions with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and other recreational stakeholders.

Through these opportunities, our members stay informed about trail access, land management, responsible recreation, and future opportunities for off-highway vehicle use.

We believe constructive communication and collaboration with public agencies, recreational organizations, and local stakeholders are essential to preserving access and promoting responsible outdoor recreation.

Community Involvement & Giving Back

Community is at the heart of Beyond Borders Overland, both on and off the trail.

Our members volunteer their time, support recreational events, participate in educational opportunities, and contribute to activities that bring people together.

From supporting MN4WDA events and initiatives to sharing knowledge, helping fellow enthusiasts, and participating in community activities, we believe that strong relationships create a stronger outdoor recreation community.

As BBO continues to grow, we look forward to expanding our involvement in volunteer projects, stewardship initiatives, and opportunities to make a positive difference.

Built on Friendship. Driven by Adventure.

Some of the best memories aren't planned.

They're the unexpected stops along a remote road, the stories shared around a campfire, the challenges overcome together, and the friendships that continue long after the trip ends.

Those experiences define Beyond Borders Overland.

From Leslie Morrison's original vision in 2020 to the growing organization we are today, BBO continues to embrace the same spirit of friendship, exploration, and shared adventure.

We're proud of where we started, excited about where we're headed, and committed to building a community where people can explore, learn, and create lasting memories together.
